How to Refinish Your Wooden Floors Without Hiring Floor Sanding Experts
If your floor shows extensive signs of damage, you will need to refinish it entirely. But, if it’s only the glossy layer of the floor that has worn out, you should consider screening the floor instead. For screening the floor, you’ll need to:
- Buff the floor with a floor buffer that has the heaviest screening pad
- Run the machine in the direction of the floorboards and work your way from one edge of the room to the other, as you remove the upper layer of the existing gloss
- Screen the entire floor before vacuuming thoroughly
- Load the buffer with a medium-abrasion pad for buffing the floor in a similar manner again
- Buff the floor with the finest variety of screening pads for smoothening and cleaning the surface
- After vacuuming, you will be left with a dull and flat floor
- Pour some polyurethane at the corner of the floor in a line perpendicular to the direction of the floorboards
- Set the applicator in the floss and pull it backwards slowly over the floorboards, running in the same direction as the boards
- Repeat this process by adding more polyurethane until you’ve covered the entire length of the floor
- Let the floor dry for eight to 10 hours
- Buff the dried gloss by hand with fine sandpaper and vacuum the area subsequently
- Place a second coat of polyurethane as you did initially and let it dry before hand-sanding it again
- Repeat this a third time and leave it for two days before using the floor
